Macro Photography Lenses

I used a Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 macro lens and Canon EF 100mm 1:2.8 macro. I got great photos from both lenses. The Sigma is MUCH less expensive than the Canon but they offer different options. To take closeups with the Sigma one has to move far away from the subject. With the Canon the photographer is very close to the subject. You can achieve great detail and use lighting more accurately than with the Sigma.

Sunlight or flood lights or snoots?

Well, I prefer sunlight but it’ll be in short supply soon. I like the word “snoot.”

Do you own trolls?

I’ve just gotten into getting old toys from eBay. Rock ‘em Sock ‘em robots, trolls, a wooden top, marbles, HO scale figurines, Monopoly, Tiddly Winks, and a balsa wood airplane. I’ll be taking them into my studio to create vignettes to photograph. Should be fun!

What’s a lux?

lux_wrangler.jpgThe lux (symbol: lx) is the SI unit of illuminance. It is used in photometry as a measure of the intensity of light, with wavelengths weighted according to the luminosity function, a standardized model of human brightness perception. In English, “lux” is used in both singular and plural.[1] (Wikipedia)
